Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS -- After an early-game scare, the Northwestern College women's basketball team regained its composure to beat North Central University 59-47 in a nonconference affair on Tuesday night. After holding a four-point halftime lead, the Eagles turned on the offense in the second half to win by 12.

Northwestern wasn't able to establish a solid foundation in the first period, as the lead changed seven times to go with four more ties in the initial 20 minutes. The Eagles opened up the second half with eight straight points and maintained a 10- to 12-point advantage throughout the remainder of the game in route to the 59-47 final score.

Neither team had much success making baskets throughout the game. Northwestern made 34 percent of its attempts, while North Central drained just 33 percent of its shots. As a team, the Eagles were only able to make two of their 15 attempts from behind the three-point line.

Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored 27 points to go with 13 rebounds for yet another double-double this season. DeWitt also dished out three assists while recording three steals in the game. Allison Johnson (Plymouth, Minn./Heritage Christian) (Greenville, Minn./Heritage Christian Academy) was the team's next-highest scorer with eight points. Johnson also grabbed 13 boards off the glass, eight of which were on offense.

Hope Sevlie was one rebound shy of a double-double for North Central, scoring 15 points to go with nine rebounds. Elisabeth Trickey contributed 11 points in the loss.

With the win, Northwestern improves to 10-7 overall. The Eagles will return home for a game against Crown College on Saturday, Jan. 30. Northwestern will host WBCA Pink Zone festivities in association with Saturday's game, joining women's basketball coaches around the country in raising breast cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game, which is scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m.
