Women's Hoops bests Martin Luther in 68-44 rout

NEW ULM, Minn. -- Northwestern College seniors Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and Ariel Liesch (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) took the Knights of Martin Luther College by storm on Friday night, as the pair accounted for 41 of the Eagles' 68 points in a 68-44 final. Between DeWitt and Liesch, the two drained eight of their 16 attempts from behind the 3-point line, and Northwestern added 22 points in the paint to beat their UMAC Conference opponents.

Despite making only 31 percent of their attempts in the first half, the Eagles held a 34-21 lead at halftime. NWC boosted its lead to 27 with five minutes left in the second half before outrebounding the host-Knights by 26 boards after 40 minutes of play.

As a team, Northwestern made 24 of its 64 attempts (37.5 percent). Martin Luther didn't shoot any better though, as the Eagles held the Knights to 28 percent.

DeWitt was 10-16 overall for 27 points, grabbing 10 missed shots off the glass to produce a double-double, her fifth of the season. Liesch added 14 points and nine rebounds, while Megan Myhre (Barnum, Minn./Barnum) (Barnum, Minn./Barnum) grabbed eight boards as well in 18 minutes.

Erica Babinec scored 12 points for Martin Luther.

The Eagles improve their season record to 7-6 with the win, while Martin Luther falls to 2-9 overall (0-3 UMAC).
