Koth's 19 kills leads NWC past Minn.-Morris

MORRIS, Minn. -- The Northwestern College volleyball team recorded its first UMAC win of the 2009 season on Friday night, defeating the University of Minnesota, Morris in three sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-22). NWC was paced by Steph Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing), who had a season-high 19 kills in the three-set match.

Northwestern hit .198 as a team, while Morris averaged a .212 attacking percentage. Koth tallied only four errors in 36 attempts for a .417 personal attacking percentage.

Leah Kostek (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian ) (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and Hillary Slagter (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) set the table nicely for Koth and the other Eagle attackers, recording 17 and 16 assists respectively.

As a team, NWC posted 46 kills in the match compared to the Cougars' 30. Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) had six kills while a trio of Eagles each had five.

Defensively, Kelsey Korporal (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredricksburg) led Northwestern with 18 digs. Slagter and Sarah Whitmore (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake Christian) (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake Christian) each had three blocks in the match.
