Box Score

ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College men's soccer team had a strong showing in its 2009 season debut, battling with the University of St. Thomas despite a slim 1-0 loss.

The Eagles' Danny King (Willmar, MN/Willmar High School) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) made three excellent saves in the game, but St. Thomas' Mike Hutton put a shot past King in the 64th minute - a goal that would prove to be the game-winner. Northwestern countered with five shots in the game, one of which were on goal.

Northwestern begins its season at 0-1-0, while St. Thomas begins 2009 at 1-0-0. The Eagles will kick off a marathon schedule on Friday, when they play the first of four games in five days. NWC will host St. Olaf College at Reynolds Field for a 5 p.m. matinee on Friday before travelling up the road to Bethel University to play a neutral site game against UW-Superior.
