Minn.-Morris downs NWC 5-0

MORRIS, Minn. -- The Northwestern College men's soccer team continued its UMAC schedule on Friday, taking a 5-0 loss to the University of Minnesota, Morris. Morris, who tied St. Scholastica for the top choice in the preseason coaches' poll, outshot the Eagles 26-8 in the game.

2008 UMAC Player of the Year Brent Diggs scored Morris' first two goals, as the Cougars led 4-0 before halftime. Kelsey Duerr added his second goal of the game at the 58:07 mark to cap UMM's scoring at five.

Patrick O'Connor recorded three assists for the Cougars.

Danny King (Willmar, MN/Willmar High School) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) tallied five saves while in front of the net for Northwestern.

With the loss, the Eagles slide to 1-7 overall in 2009 and will try for Win No. 2 on Saturday as Northwestern plays Presentation College in Aberdeen, S.D. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
