Eagles keep undefeated status after 3-1 win over Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL (Oct. 4, 2008) – The Northwestern College volleyball team continued their undefeated record in the UMAC on Saturday, defeating Bethany Lutheran College 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13). With the win, Northwestern now sits alone atop the league standings.

Kathryne Engel (Wayzata, Minn./West Lutheran) (Wayzata, Minn./West Lutheran) turned in her best offensive performance of the year with 20 kills, while Steph Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Laura Bicket (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) each added ten kills apiece. Northwestern hit .222 in the match, besting Bethany Lutheran's .091.

Setting the offensive attack for NWC was Leah Kostek (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian ) (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and Hillary Slagter (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian), who combined for 39 assists in the match.

The Eagles tallied 15 blocks, led by Bicket who was a part of nine. Sarah Whitmore (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake Christian) (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake Christian) contributed five blocks in the match.

Northwestern improves to 12-4 (4-0 UMAC) with the win, while Bethany Lutheran falls to 7-11 (3-1 UMAC). The Eagles have won five straight and 10 out of their last 11 matches. Next up will be two matches next week versus the University of Minnesota, Morris and Presentation College. Morris will come to the Ericksen Center for an 8 p.m. match on Thursday, while Presentation will follow on Friday at 7 p.m.
