Volleyball takes care of Martin Luther in three

ST PAUL. (Oct. 3, 2008) – The Northwestern College volleyball team hosted the first of two more undefeated teams in the UMAC on Friday night in Martin Luther College. The Eagles continued their pace, defeating the Knights 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-17). It was Northwestern's fourth win in a row.

NWC brought a balanced attack to the court, as four Eagles had six or more kills in the match. Sarah Whitmore (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake Christian) (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake Christian) led all players with 11 kills, while Kathryne Engel (Wayzata, Minn./West Lutheran) (Wayzata, Minn./West Lutheran) followed with 10. Hillary Slagter (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) also added seven kills in the match to go with 17 assists.

Northwestern cumulated a team attacking percentage of .259 in the match while owning a 10-6 advantage in total team blocks. Whitmore and Elissa Sandstrom (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) (Cloquet, Minn./Carleton) each had five blocks, while Laura Bicket (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) had four.

The Eagles' Leah Kostek (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian ) (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) had 20 assists to lead all players in the match.

Northwestern (11-4, 3-0 UMAC) can take sole possession of the league's top spot tomorrow with a win over Bethany Lutheran. That match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
