ST. PAUL (Oct. 3, 2008) – Northwestern College men's soccer coach
Greg Wheaton can breathe a sigh of relief, as his team scored their first goal at Reynolds Field since Sep. 3 to defeat the visiting Vikings from Bethany Lutheran College.
Jonathan Blatchley (Ham Lake, MN/St. Francis High School) (Ham Lake, Minn./St. Francis) headed a throw-in from teammate
Dan Schumann (Ham Lake, MN/Concordia Academy) (Ham Lake, Minn./Concordia Academy), sneaking the ball in the right corner of the net at the 77:31 mark. Blatchley's score, which was his first of the 2008 season, gave the Eagles the only scoring needed, as goalkeeper
Danny King (Willmar, MN/Willmar High School) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) and the rest of the NWC defense preserved their third shutout of the year.
Northwestern owned the game's shots category, holding a 17-2 advantage over Bethany Lutheran.
With the win, the Eagles inch closer to the .500 mark at 4-6-0. Northwestern is 3-2-0 in UMAC play. Bethany Lutheran slips to 3-6-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the conference.
NWC will take less than 24 hours to rest their legs, as they'll host Martin Luther College in another UMAC affair on Saturday. Kickoff for that game is at 12 Noon.
