Men's Soccer, St. Scholastica end in 0-0 tie

ST. PAUL (Oct. 18, 2008) – Northwestern College entered Saturday afternoon's game as the only UMAC team to defeat the College of St. Scholastica. Today's game was just as tight, as both teams battled to a scoreless tie after 110 minutes of play.

Northwestern maintained possession of the field for much of regulation, but none of the Eagles' 12 shots in the initial 90 minutes went past Saints goalkeeper Sam Reed. NWC finished the chippy game with a 17-5 advantage in shots.

Phil Lodien (Kalispell, Mont./Stillwater Christian) had Northwestern's best shot at a victory, as his attempt from ten yards out in the first overtime period was rejected on a great diving save by St. Scholastica's Reed.

Danny King (Willmar, MN/Willmar High School) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) recorded one save on the day while not giving up any goals for the fourth time this season.

Northwestern (6-8-1, 5-4-1 UMAC) continues to try and hang on to their spot in the UMAC's top four teams, who will earn a spot in the conference's postseason tournament. St. Scholastica (12-3-2, 9-1-1) will continue to battle for the conference championship, as second place-Minnesota, Morris is right on their heels.

The Eagles will next host Augsburg College on Tuesday, Oct. 21 in a nonconference game. That contest is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
