Morris shuts down Men's Soccer

MORRIS, Minn. (Oct. 11, 2008) -- A rough start to the weekend didn't get any better for the Northwestern College men's soccer team, as the Eagles lost to a powerful University of Minnesota, Morris team 5-0.  The Cougars, who improved their season's record to 12-2 overall, completed a season sweep of NWC with the win.

Brent Diggs scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season in the game, while Toby Glaser and Patrick O'Connor each had a goal and an assist.  Diggs, who leads the UMAC with 30 points, also had an assist in the game.

Danny King (Willmar, MN/Willmar High School) (Wilmar, Minn./Wilmar) and Josh Niedermayer (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) split time in goal for Northwestern.  King had three saves in 60 minutes of action, while Niedermayer finished with one save in a half hour's worth of work.

Morris finished with a 20-15 advantage in shots.  Both teams had nine shots on goal in the game.

Northwestern falls to 5-8-0 overall and 4-4-0 with the loss.  The Eagles will try to maintain their position in the league's top four teams next weekend.  NWC will welcome Northland College to Reynolds Field on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 for a 3 p.m. game.
