Men's Soccer Falls to St. Scholastica, 3-1

Box Score

Spring Lake Park, Minn., Oct. 19, 2007
– Playing against the No. 1 team in the conference didn't turn out to be an easy task for the Northwestern College men's soccer team, as the Eagles were on the short side of a 3-1 final score against the College of St. Scholastica. Northwestern, who lost a slim 1-0 game to the Saints in September, were able to keep up with St. Scholastica, but two relatively easy goals made the difference.

Andrew Ndekwe put the Saints on the board first, scoring on a Greg Doornink pass in the 24th minute. Toby Peter added to St. Scholastica's offense ten minutes later, scoring at 35:16 to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.

Northwestern's Jacob Schweitz (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) and Chris Applegate (Andover, MN/Meadow Creek High School) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) hooked up for a goal 45 seconds before the end of the first half, as Applegate's flip throw from the sideline found Schweitz in front of the net for a put-in, minimizing the score to 2-1 at the break.

The Saints returned for another insurance goal in the second half at the 66:54 mark, courtesy of Cody Sveiven. The contest's scoring would wrap up on Sveiven's goal, giving St. Scholastica the eventual 3-1 win.

St. Scholastica owned a 13-9 advantage in the shots category, also owning a 3-1 tally in corner kicks.

Northwestern's Danny King (Willmar, MN/Willmar High School) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) had six saves in the loss.

At 7-9-2 (6-5-2 UMAC), the Eagles will take on Northland College on Saturday with hopes of securing their spot in the UMAC Final Four with a victory. St. Scholastica, who is undefeated in conference play at 11-0 (14-3 overall), will travel to St. Bonfiacius, Minn. for a bout with Crown tomorrow.
