Carleton Holds Off Eagles

Box Score

Northfield, Minn., Oct. 23, 2007
– After wrapping up their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference regular season last weekend, the Northwestern College men's soccer team took on a high-powered Carleton College in non-conference action, falling to the Knights 2-0 in Northfield.

Carleton, who entered the contest at 13-1-3 overall, scored a goal in each of the two halves, with the first at 26:22 by Thomas Ashton, who was assisted by Bobby Phillips. Phillips then recorded a goal of his own in the 83rd minute, putting a shot past Northwestern keeper Danny King (Willmar, MN/Willmar High School) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar).

The Knights held a 14-4 advantage in shots, including an 11-2 comparison in the first half alone. Carleton also had 10 corner kicks, while Northwestern had five attempts from the corner.

King had six saves in the loss.

At 8-10-2, the Eagles will likely assume the fourth seed in the UMAC Final Four, which takes place on Nov. 2 and 3 in Duluth, Minn.
