Eagles Stay Hot, Defeat Martin Luther 53-44

NEW ULM, Minn. (Jan. 18, 2007)
– The Northwestern College women's basketball team picked up their fourth consecutive victory on Friday night, defeating Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) foe Martin Luther College by a score of 53-44.

Northwestern held a 31-19 lead at halftime, and fended off the Knights in their second-half efforts to preserve the nine-point win.

The Eagles received a great performance out of sophomore Ariel Liesch (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial), who scored 21 points. 12 of Liesch's points came at the free throw line, where she was 12-for-14.

Senior Kelly Zuleger (Cresco, IA/Crestwood High School) (Cresco, Iowa/Crestwood) added eight points in the win, while Rachel Bohnen (Grand Marais, Minn./Cook County) chipped in seven for Northwestern.

Katie Tuseth (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake High School) (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) tallied a team-high seven rebounds in the game, while Liesch grabbed six. Luanne Toews (Lustre, Mont./Lustre Christian) had five assists in the win.

Nicole Lehman led Martin Luther with 11 points.

Northwestern (6-9, 4-0 UMAC) will take their undefeated conference record to Bethany Lutheran on Saturday, where they'll go up against the Vikings' two towers in Eva Voss and Leslie Bremer, who have dominated the UMAC in rebounding this season. Game time in Mankato is scheduled for 3 p.m.
