Costly Turnovers Hamper Eagles' Hot Shooting

SUPERIOR, Wis. (Dec. 13, 2007)
– After out-scoring the Yellow Jackets from Wisconsin-Superior in the first half, the Northwestern College women's basketball team couldn't last long enough to pull out a win on Thursday night, falling to Superior 59-55.

The Eagles, who held a 28-24 lead after the game's initial 20 minutes, struggled with turnovers throughout the second half, despite shooting 55.6 percent from the field in that period. Northwestern led by as many as 10 in the first half.

Northwestern shot a team-best 55.6 percent from 3-point range as well in the game, nailing 10 of their 18 shots from beyond the arc. For the contest, the Eagles shot 48.8 percent – also a team best this season, holding a slight advantage over the Yellow Jackets who countered with 45.5 percent.

Superior hurt NWC under the hoop, scoring 24 points in the paint, compared to a mere six for Northwestern. The Jackets also turned the Eagles' 21 turnovers into 25 points.

Katie Tuseth (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake High School) (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) had 12 points to pace Northwestern, pulling down seven rebounds in the mean time. Ariel Liesch (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and Nikki Doyle (Minnoka, Il/Minooka Community High School) (Minnoka, Ill./Minooka Community) also contributed eight points in the game.

Tessa Gronli led UW-Superior with 15 points.

Following the loss, Northwestern falls to 2-7 (1-0 UMAC) on the season. The Eagles will have one more game before Christmas break, as they face UW-River Falls in River Falls, Wis. on Saturday. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
