Men's Golf Improves on Day Two of Midwest Region Classic, Finishes 16th

KANSASVILLE, Wis. - The University of Northwestern Men's Golf team crossed the border into Wisconsin once again, this time to compete in perhaps the largest field of its season--the Midwest Region Classic. Last season, the Eagles finished fourth in a field of 45 teams, which two more teams than are in the field this weekend. Follow along with the action all weekend long with live scoring here.

Day One

UNW competed in the morning wave in a shotgun start format, and finished tied for 11th among the morning teams at 307 (+19), in a tie with Bethany Lutheran, who has had Northwestern's number so far this season. A pair of Carsons led the way for the Eagles with matching 76's (+4). Carson Besonen (Madison, Minn./Lac qui Parle Valley) raced out to a great start and was -1 through 11 holes, but shot +5 on his final four. Carson Moscoso (Maple Grove, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) made a pair of birdies and shot 38 on both sides. Carter Dilly (Henning, Minn./Henning) joined the lineup this weekend and made an immediate impact, carding a 77 (+5) with two birdies to contribute to the team score. Luke Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) made three birdies en route to a 78 (+6), as did Tanner Doeden (Fargo, N.D./Park Christian), making all three of his on the back nine.

The Eagles will finish up play at Brighton Dale Links on Saturday, with tee times beginning at 8:00 AM.

Day Two

Saturday's final round was a productive one for Northwestern, as all five golfers improved their scores from Friday, and the team score improved by nine, resulting in a 16th-place finish at +29, up from 20th place after Friday. Notably, Besonen led the way with a 73 (+1) to finish tied for 42nd, bouncing back from a bogey-bogey start to shoot one-under par the rest of the way and finish at +5 for the tournament. Moscoso also improved by four shots in the final round, making three birdies on his way to a 74 (+2), and +6 overall. Doeden had the biggest improvement from day one to day two, making four birdies and shaving six strokes to card a 75 (+3) and finish at +9 for the weekend. Dilly also finished at +9 for the weekend after a 76 (+4) on Saturday, while Frazell shot 77 (+5) on day two, with four birdies, to come in at +11 for the event.
