Eagles Add Three More UMAC Athlete of the Week Awards

ST. PAUL, Minn. - After a busy, but successful week of University of Northwestern athletics, three Eagles have earned Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week recognition. Dreyer Homan (Clara City, Minn./MACCRAY), Sarah Langridge (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) and Emery Maki (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) were honored by the conference for their accomplishments from April 6th-12th.

The full UMAC press release can be found here.

Homan is now a two-time winner of the UMAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week award this season after two lights-out starts that also earned him Monday's NCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week award. Monday against Crown, the senior tossed eight shutout innings and struck out six, while only giving up five hits in a 9-1 win. Saturday against Minnesota Morris, the Clara City native took the mound again and threw a complete game (eight innings) that featured 11 strikeouts and just two earned runs on six hits in a 13-3 win. His 33 strikeouts in UMAC play lead the conference by a wide margin. This also marks the second week in a row Northwestern has won the award (Alex Luepke (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West)).

Langridge is also a two-time honoree this year, having won UMAC Women's Tennis North Division Athlete of the Week the same week as Homan's previous honor (March 24th). The freshman went 3-0 in her No. 2 singles matches this week, including thrilling, three-set wins over opponents from UW-River Falls and Saint Benedict, and a two-setter against Hamline. On the season, she boasts a 12-7 singles record, which leads the team.

Maki is no stranger to the UMAC Athlete of the Week awards either, as this week marks her sixth time winning the award across both cross country and track and field. This is the first time in this year's outdoor track and field season she has won the UMAC Track Athlete of the Week honor, adding to her two indoor nods. The junior gets the nod after tying a season-best time of 2:17.8 in the 800-meter run at the Gene Glader Invitational, which puts her 97th in NCAA Division III and first in the UMAC. Her fifth-place finish in the event put her behind three Division I runners and one from DII. This also marks the second week in a row Northwestern has won the award (Alaina Wojtowski (Oshkosh, Wis./Valley Christian)).
