Northwestern Wins Five Opening-Week UMAC Awards

ST. PAUL, Minn. - It was a busy but successful opening week for University of Northwestern Athletics, as five UNW student-athletes across four sports were named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week on Wednesday morning. The recipients were Tyler Dueber (Bloomington, Minn./Homeschool) (Men's Cross Country), Morgan Eckman (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) (Women's Golf), Naomi Meehan (Waconia, Minn./Homeschool) (Women's Soccer - Offensive), Addeson Jenniges (Walnut Grove, Minn./Westbrook-Walnut Grove) (Volleyball - Setter) and Marley Aune (New Brighton, Minn./Avail Academy) (Volleyball - Defensive).

The full UMAC press release can be accessed here.

Dueber took home first place in his first collegiate cross country meet after playing soccer the previous two falls. His 18:18 5k time also helped lead the Eagles to a team victory at the Battle Creek Triangular. Eckman won her seventh-career UMAC Player of the Week award after a record-breaking weekend in Wisconsin. The junior shot an even-par 72 in Saturday's final round of the Ives Grove Firebird Women's Fall Classic, breaking her own school record of 74, and led Northwestern to a program record for low team round as well with a 308 (previously 318). Meehan joins Dueber as a first-time recipient, doing so in the Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week category. The sophomore scored the Eagles' first goal of the 2025 season in highlight fashion, leading to a 2-2 draw with Bethel in the season opener on Friday afternoon. Meehan stole the ball from a Royal before dropping a deep, high-arcing shot just over the goalkeeper's outstretched arm.

Jenniges's Volleyball Setter of the Week marks her debut in the conference's weekly awards as well. The sophomore dished out 105 assists (9.55 per set) at the Kathryne Pals Legacy Invitational, earning her All-Tournament Team honors. Aune joined her teammate on the All-Tournament Team and joins her in this week's UMAC awards with her sixth-career Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honor. The senior, who was also named NCCAA Women's Volleyball Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday, had 14 blocks (9 solo, 1.27 per set) over the weekend, including the 400th of her career. She also tallied 27 kills (2.45 per set) and averaged 3.59 points per set, an impressive mark for a middle blocker.
