KANSASVILLE, Wis. – On the heels of being crowned NCCAA North Central Region champions on Tuesday, the University of Northwestern Men's Golf team is looking to stay hot as it competes in the Midwest Region Classic this weekend at Brighton Dale Links. Day One
 
Friday's opening round was a success for Northwestern, as it turned in a team score of 295 (+7) and has multiple players near the top of the individual leaderboard after the morning wave's completion. Freshman Carson Besonen (Madison, Minn./Lac qui Parle Valley) led the way with a 71 (-1) which featured two birdies on each nine and is tied for sixth place. Fellow rookie Luke Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) made three birdies en route to an even-par 72 and is tied for 12th, while Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) was one shot behind him with a 73, making one birdie on each side, which places him in a tie for 27th. Jakob Swanson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) carded a 79 (+7) to complete the team scoring for the day, and Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah) turned in a score of 84 (+12) with two birdies.
 
UNW enters Saturday in fourth place as a team and second among those who finished in the morning wave. The Eagles will look to continue climbing up the leaderboard in Saturday's final round in Kansasville.
