NEW ULM, Minn. - Thursday was a good day for the University of Northwestern Men's Golf team. In a testament to the program's depth, the "B" team actually beat the "A" team in the MLC Spring Invite and brought home the hardware with a score of 315. The "A" team tied for second place with a 321.
Jackson Courteau (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) led all Eagles with a score of 76 (+4) to tie for second among individuals and help the "B" squad to the victory.
Trevor Zenk (Forest Lake, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) followed suit with a 78 (+6) and a sixth-place finish, and
Noah Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) turned in an 80 (+8) to tie for eighth.
Andrew Carlson (Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee) was one shot behind Frazell in a tie for 11th with an 81 (+9), while
Carson Moscoso (Maple Grove, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) finished off the sequential order with an 82 (+10) to finish in a tie for 20th place.
For the "A" team, reigning UMAC Player of the Week
Carson Besonen (Madison, Minn./Lac qui Parle Valley) led the way with a 77 (+5) to tie for fourth, while
Carter Dilly (Henning, Minn./Henning) turned in a solid 81 (+9) and tied for 11th.
Jakob Swanson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) also tied for 11th with an 81 (+9), and
Luke Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) and
Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah) shot matching 84's (+12) to tie for 26th. Two more Eagles competed as individuals, separate from the team competition, and had good days as well.
Tanner McNamee (Blaine, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) tied for eighth and fired an 80 (+8), while
Noah Carlson (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) carded an 84 (+12) to tie for 26th place.
Northwestern will finish its spring season Monday, April 27th at the Knights Spring Invitational in Stillwater.
