Seven of Nine Men's Track and Field Athletes PR at Macalester Meet

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Men's Track and Field team competed at the Janis Rider/Doug Bolstorff Invitational at Macalester on Saturday afternoon. In an impressive showing, seven of the nine UNW racers improved their career times.

Will Dorch (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens) competed in the 200 and finished 20th with a time of 23.77 seconds. Sprinting the length of the track, Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) took his mark in the 400, along with Peter Kephart (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern). Ringsmuth placed 13th after running a personal best time of 51.96. Kephart ran a 56.87 time for a 35th-place finish.

In the 800-meter, all three Eagle runners recorded personal bests with Bennett Selfridge (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Christian) leading the charge for Northwestern. Selfridge notched a 2:09.39 finish for 24th place, which was four seconds faster than he has ever run the two-lap event. Following closely behind Selfridge was Tyler Dueber (Bloomington, Minn./Homeschool) in 26th place, shaving two seconds off his career best time to finish with a time of 2:09.73. Three positions behind Dueber came Owen Van De Riet (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville), turning in a time of 2:11.80. Van De Riet chopped nearly eight seconds off his own record.

Similar to the 800, all three runners in the 1,500-meter run beat their best times. Jacob Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) crossed the finish line first for Northwestern in 11th place. He dropped three seconds off his time for a finish of 4:25.15. Almost two seconds faster than his previous best, Samuel Otis (Shoreview, Minn./Homeschool) was in 14th place, clocking a time of 4:31.99. In 20th place, Nate Moser (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) also took about two seconds off for a 4:45.86 finish.

Rounding out the regular season with this meet, the men's team will be back on the track next weekend, May 2nd and 3rd, for the UMAC Championships in Morris, Minnesota.
