MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Men's Track and Field went downtown for the Gary Wilson Invitational at the University of Minnesota. With another meet on Saturday, only three athletes took the track for this Wednesday afternoon meet.
Jacob Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) opened the meet in the 5,000-meter race. Weddle finished 3rd, stopping the clock at 16:59.73, over a minute faster than 4th place. Almost five hours after Weddle's race, Will Dorch (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens) competed in the 100-meter dash for the second event for the Eagles. Dorch sprinted to an 11.81-second finish. In the 3rd heat of the 800-meter, Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) competed against 14 other runners who all had times within six seconds of each other. With this small spread of times, the race was competitive to the end. The sophomore battled for a 6th-place finish in his heat for a time of 2:01.57, just .12 seconds behind his personal best time.
On Saturday, the Eagles will travel down Snelling Avenue for the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational at Macalester College.
