Men's Tennis Drops Road Match at UW-Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. – After an impressive non-conference win over Concordia-Moorhead on Wednesday, the University of Northwestern Men's Tennis team hoped to carry that momentum into a Friday tilt with conference rival, University of Wisconsin-Superior. After a one-hour rain delay, the two squads went to battle, and UW-Superior defended its home court with a 7-0 win over the Eagles.

Doubles matches began with a 6-3 loss by Caleb Swigart (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) and Caleb Jergenson (Livingston, Mont./Park) at No. 3. In the No. 1 match, Carson Haack (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Sam Majerus (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) fell 6-2, while Griffen Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and Isaac Thomforde (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) suffered a 6-4 loss at No. 2 doubles.

Unfortunately for Northwestern, its luck didn't improve during singles play. Five of the six Eagles lost in straight sets, beginning with Majerus at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 2-6. Jarchow lost 4-6, 1-6 at No. 2, while Haack fell 2-6, 2-6 in the No. 1 match. At No. 4 singles, Thomforde won the first set, 6-2, before losing the next two, 1-6 and 0-6. Rounding out the day for UNW were Jergenson with a 0-6, 3-6 loss at No. 6 singles, and Swigart with a 1-6, 3-6 defeat at No. 5.

Northwestern will play its final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday, April 23rd at 2:30 PM at Hamline.
