UNW Men Fall to Pipers

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern Men's Tennis team traveled down Snelling Avenue on Wednesday afternoon for its final non-conference match of the 2025 regular season. A tough Hamline University squad awaited the Eagles, who came up short by a 1-6 margin.

Northwestern's No. 3 doubles team of Caleb Swigart (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) and Caleb Jergenson (Livingston, Mont./Park) came up short by a 1-6 score. Griffen Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and Isaac Thomforde (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) battled to earn a 6-3 win in the No. 2 match, meaning the doubles point would come down to the No. 1 match. Carson Haack (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Sam Majerus (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) fought admirably, but weren't able to come out on top, losing 4-6.

In singles matches, Jarchow fell 2-6, 4-6 at No. 2, while Swigart suffered a 4-6, 3-6 defeat in the No. 5 spot. Thomforde secured UNW's lone point with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles to improve to 2-0 on the day, but Majerus dropped his No. 3 match, 5-7, 1-6. After Haack came up short at No. 1 singles by a 6-7, 4-6 margin, Jergenson lost 2-6 at No. 6.

Northwestern's final two matches of the regular season will be played on Saturday, April 26th at the Johnson Tennis Complex. The Eagles will take on Crown at 1:00 PM and Martin Luther at 4:30 PM as they battle to clinch a spot in the following weekend's UMAC Tournament in Minneapolis.
