ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Men's Track team competed in the Bethel Invitational on Saturday afternoon. According to
Nate Moser (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian), the weather on the track was perfect for PR's, and he proved to be correct. The Eagles, along with Moser, recorded six new career-best times throughout the day.
The men's team didn't compete in an event until the second half of the day.
Will Dorch (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens) and
Khai Greene (Buford, Ga./Mill Creek) opened the Eagles' charge in the 100-meter dash. Dorch recorded a time of 11.74 seconds, finishing 3rd in his heat, and Greene followed with a finish of 12.91 seconds. Dorch also raced in the 200-meter dash along with teammate
Ren Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville); both runners ran career-best times. Hamann recorded a 23.52-second finish, while Dorch stopped the clock at 23.64. Hamann raced in the 200 immediately after he finished the 400-meter hurdles. In the hurdles, he sprinted to a 16th-place finish running the full length of the track in 58.33 seconds. In the 800-meter race,
Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Samuel Otis (Shoreview, Minn./Homeschool) clocked their career best times in the event. Ringsmuth inched closer to the sub-two-minute mark as he crossed the finish line in 2:01.46 seconds. His time placed him 34th overall. Otis, also with a new best time, finished in 2:09.81.
In a field of nearly 40 runners, UNW had five athletes compete in the 5,000-meter run, where
Owen Van De Riet (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and Moser clocked their best finishes to round out the evening.
Tyler Dueber (Bloomington, Minn./Homeschool) continued his impressive first season as he finished in 14th place, leading the Eagles with a time of 16:35.02.
Bennett Selfridge (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Christian) followed 10 runners behind Dueber for a 24th-place finish, stopping the clock at 17:16.41. Van De Reit's time of 17:37.74 was almost five seconds faster than he had ever run the event. Moser, loving the "PR weather," cruised in the event and took off 29.52 seconds from his previous best run.
Peter Kephart (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) also raced in the 5,000 and finished with a time of 18:34.05.
UNW will be back on the track next week, April 17, for the Easter Invite at St. Thomas, kicking off at 8:00 AM.
