SUPERIOR, Wis. - On Friday and Saturday, the University of Northwestern Men's Track and Field team competed in the 2025 UMAC Indoor Championship. During both days, UNW participated in 10 events and had 9 top 5 finishes. The Eagles finished 6th overall in the conference with a score of 36 points.
DAY 1:
With an impressive day on the track and in the field, Ren Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville)notched a season best jump in the long jump pit and a career best time in the 60 meter hurdle prelims. Hamann jumped 6.20 meters (20'4.25") for a 6th place finish. In the hurdles, he ran a time of 9.03 seconds to qualify 5th for the final tomorrow. In the 5000, Tyler Dueber (Bloomington, Minn./Homeschool) was the first Eagle to cross the finish line. He placed 4th with a time of 16:32.32. Following Dueber in 8th place was Bennett Selfridge (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Christian), clocking in at 17:07.41. Owen Van De Riet (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) also competed in the 5000 and finished 12th running the event in 17:54.75. Rounding out the track events were the 4x200 meter relay and the distance medley, where both teams finished 5th overall. In the 4x200, Hamann, Khai Greene (Buford, Ga./Mill Creek), Will Dorch (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens), and Daniel Rodgers (Kalona, Iowa/Mid-Prairie) ran it in 1:44.36. In the medley, Peter Kephart (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern), Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), Samuel Otis (Shoreview, Minn./Homeschool), and Nate Moser (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) turned in a time of 12:05.88.
DAY 2:
The second day at the UMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships started with Hamann competing in the 60 meter hurdle final. Hamann finished 4th with a time of 9.30. After Hamann's race, the Eagles only participated in 3 other events. Ringsmuth, Otis, and Kephart represented UNW in the 800 meter run. Ringsmuth and Otis recorded career best times by 4 and 2 seconds, respectively. Ringsmuth raced in the final heat and finished 4th with a time of 2:01.72. Otis placed 16th, turning in a time of 2:12.85, with Kephart in 17th with a time of 2:14.53. In the 3000 meter race, Northwestern had 5 runners and every one of them record new personal bests. Dueber had the best UNW finish in 5th place with a time of 9:29.32, knocking off 2 seconds from his old time. Selfridge was the second Northwestern runner to stop the clock at 9:50.62. Van De Riet and Moser came in 13th and 14th place with times of 10:11.32 and 10:14.62, respectively. Rodgers saw the biggest improvement after dropping 34 seconds off his time, finishing with a time of 10:45.35.
The Eagles finished with the 4x400 meter relay run by Hamann, Dorch, Kephart, and Ringsmuth. The team notched a season best time of 3:39.67 and a 4th place finish.
The Men's team will begin their outdoor season on April 5th down the road at Hamline University starting at 10 AM.
