POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - In the fourth and final NCCAA DI Women's Basketball Quarterfinal game of the day, the University of Northwestern took on the hosts of the tournament and the number two seed, the College of the Ozarks. The Bobcats made their first shot and didn't look back as they coasted to a 77-54 victory over UNW.
For the entire four quarters, the Eagles created great offense and took shots that usually find the bottom of the net, but tonight was all for the Bobcats. In the first half, Northwestern trailed by as many as eight, but chipped away and brought the score within two points after back-to-back threes from Reese Sellers (Yuma, Ariz./Yuma Catholic), a jump shot from Ella Falk (Jamestown, N.D./Jamestown), and a pair of good freen throws by Allison Terry (Blaine, Minn./Blaine). With the score at 26-28, the Ozarks went on an 8-0 run to close out the quarter.
The Bobcats came out of the half time break on fire, as they outscored Northwestern 16-4 in the opening five minutes of the second half. UNW continued to battle with a 12-4 run of their own, capped off by a three from Ryann Eddy (Northfield, Minn./Northfield). This was the closest the Eagles got to the Bobcats before the final buzzer sounded.
Senior Jasmine Sondrol (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River) played a solid game for Northwestern as she led the team in scoring and rebounds with 13 and 8. She shot an impressive 50% from the field and made three of her four free throw attempts. Sellers made three three-pointers to finish the night with nine points, going 3-7 from behind the arc. Falk tallied 7 points while Taylor Christenson (Maple Grove, Minn./Heritage Christian Academy), Terry, and Eddy each added 5 points.
The Eagles will play in the consolation bracket on Thursday, March 20 at 10:15 AM, taking on the Golden Bears from Clinton College.
