Women's Tennis Falls in Tight Match With Ursinus

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Northwestern Women's Tennis team closed out their six-match week in Orlando, Florida with a battle against Ursinus College. The Bears were able to take home one final win with a 4-3 result.
 
Doubles proved to be a battle, with both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles falling to give Ursinus the doubles point. Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) and Aby Ross (Chico, Calif./Central) finished first with a 1-6 result in the No. 1 match. Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) and Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) finished next at No. 2 doubles, after pushing back near the end of their set, but ultimately fell 2-6. A bright spot for the Eagles in doubles came at No. 3, with Caitlyn Swigart (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) and Isabelle Sullivan (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) taking home a 6-4 win, coming out on top after a back and forth battle of holds.
 
Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) played a tight battle to start off singles for the day, playing hard, but falling 2-6, 3-6 at No. 1. Swigart was not far behind at No. 5, ending with a 1-6, 0-6 score. Sullivan at No. 6 singles finished next, as Ursinus clinched the match with a 1-6, 1-6 result. Following a few tough losses, those at Nos. 2, 3, and 4 came through to put some points on the board. In the No. 2 spot, Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) came back from losing her first set 1-6, taking the second 6-1. She finished the job in a breaker, sealing the deal with a 10-6 score. Jarchow had a battle of a first set in the No. 3 match, finishing with a 7-5 result, then secured the second set 6-4. Ross took a similar route to her win at No. 4 singles, taking the first set in a 7-4 tiebreak. She kept up this momentum in her second set, cruising to a 6-0 result.
 
After traveling home from Florida, the Eagles will next be in action on March 22nd, making the trek down to Mount Vernon, Iowa to take on Loras College and Cornell College.
