MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Men's Indoor Track and Field team saw 11 athletes compete in the Gopher Classic at the University of Minnesota on Saturday afternoon. In a competitive field of runners from all divisions, the Eagles ran hard and recorded several new personal best times.
Northwestern had two runners in the 60 meter dash, John Shevchuk (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) and Khai Greene (Buford, Ga./Mill Creek). Shevchuck finished the 60m in 7.24 seconds, placing 16th overall. He also set a season best in the 200 meter dash later in the meet with a time of 23.80 seconds. Rounding out his day for the Eagles, Shevchuk took 18th place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.18. Greene ran the 60m in 8.10 seconds. He also raced in the 200 meter dash where he set a career best with 26.99 seconds. Also taking the blocks in the 200 was senior Will Dorch (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens). Dorch placed 24th with a time of 24.26.
In the 800, the Eagles made up seven of the 34 runners. The first finisher for Northwestern was Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) in 15th place. Ringsmuth set a new personal record with a time of 2:04.96. Tyler Dueber (Bloomington, Minn./Homeschool) was next to cross the finish line for the Eagles, stopping the clock at 2:11.94. Dueber also raced in the 1 mile, where he broke his career best time with a finish of 4:43.91. Bennett Selfridge (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Christian) also participated in the 800 and the mile. He finished 22nd and 23rd with times of 2:12.39 and 4:54.65, respectively. Following Selfridge three seconds later in the 800 meter was Samuel Otis (Shoreview, Minn./Homeschool). Owen Van De Riet (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville), Daniel Rodgers (Kalona, Iowa/Mid-Prairie), and Nate Moser (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) crossed the end line one after the other. Van De Riet clocked a time of 2:22.01, Rodgers came one second later at 2:23.29, and Moser turned in a career best time of 2:32.79. Van De Riet and Moser also competed in the mile and wrapped up their runs with times of 5:12.65 and 5:11.12, respectively. Moser, with his 5:11.12 finish, set a new personal record in the one mile.
Peter Kephart (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) raced in the second to last running event of the day, the 3000 meter run. Kephart ran it in 10:12.54, which was fast enough for a 24th place finish.
The Men's team will be back in action on Saturday, February 15 for the Maday Classic at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
