MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Men's track and Field Team competed against all NCAA divisions in the Snowshoe Open at the University of Minnesota on Friday afternoon. In this meet, the Eagles had 12 entries and impressively recorded personal bests in all but two of them.
Two of the 10 new personal records came in just 60 meters. Khai Greene (Buford, Ga./Mill Creek) recorded an 8.05 second finish in the 60m prelim race, which was .01 seconds faster than his previous best time. Ren Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) also notched a PR in 60 meters; however, he also had to clear hurdles on his way to the finish line. Hamann's 9.05 finish dropped almost 0.2 seconds from his prior time. Hamann finished 15th in the preliminary 60 meter hurdles, then he also raced in the 200 meter dash for the first time this season, finishing 17th with a new career-best time of 24.34.
Another career fastest finish was clinched by Daniel Rodgers (Kalona, Iowa/Mid-Prairie) in the 800 meter race. Rodgers shaved off nearly one second from his previous best, clocking 2:22.33 for a 24th-place finish.
With four Northwestern athletes in the 1 mile race, all of them logged a personal best time. Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) led the Eagles as he crossed the finish line in 21st place with a PR of 4:47.20. Ringsmuth dropped 6 seconds from his previous best and smashed his season best by over 30 seconds. Next across the line was Bennett Selfridge (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Christian). Selfridge's all-time fastest mark dropped around 3 seconds on his way to a 4:51.08 finish. Peter Kephart (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) also notched a new best with a time of 5:04.17, cutting nearly 12 seconds from his old top finish. Samuel Otis (Shoreview, Minn./Homeschool) ran the mile for the first time during the meet today, setting his personal best at 5:06.84.
Tyler Dueber (Bloomington, Minn./Homeschool), Owen Van De Riet (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville), and Nate Moser (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) rounded out the day for the Eagles in the 3000 meter race. Dueber crossed first for Northwestern with a top-25 finish and a time of 9:31.62. Van De Riet and Moser ran neck and neck, both posting career best times. Moser finished ahead with a PR of 10:16.83, while Van De Riet clocked a PR of 10:19.88.
The Eagles have a quick turnaround as they compete in the Gene Glader Classic at Bethel University tomorrow, February 22, starting at 10:00 AM.
