SUPERIOR, Wis. - Up in Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, the UNW Men's Indoor Track and Field team competed at the Maday Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Khai Greene (Buford, Ga./Mill Creek) had a strong day as he recorded two personal records. His first PR came in the 60 meter as he crossed the finish line in 8.06 seconds. He finished 6th in the 200 meter dash with his second PR of 26.71 seconds. In the 60 meter hurdles, Ren Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) placed 4th with a time of 9.24 in his first event this season.
Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) finished top ten in the 1000 meter race, stopping the clock at 2:49.41. In another long-distance race, Samuel Otis (Shoreview, Minn./Homeschool) and Daniel Rodgers (Kalona, Iowa/Mid-Prairie) competed in the 3000 meters. They finished first and second place with times of 10:48.54 and 11:19.34, respectively. Finally, in the longest event of the day, five Northwestern runners competed in the 5000 meter race. Tyler Dueber (Bloomington, Minn./Homeschool) was the only Eagle to break a top-ten finish. He turned in a 7th place finish with a time of 16:25.83. Notably, Owen Van De Riet (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville), also racing in the 5000m, ran a career best time of 17:42.14.
The lone relay that the Eagles participated in resulted in a season best for the team. In the 4x400, run by Hamann, Will Dorch (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens), Ringsmuth, and Peter Kephart (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern), UNW finished in 3:41.62, enough for a 5th place finish.
The men's team will race next week on February 21st at the University of Minnesota.
