Eagles Remain Receiving Votes in AVCA Poll Prior to Playoffs

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The final American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll before NCAA Tournament play begins has been released, and the University of Northwestern finds itself in a familiar spot. UNW is once again receiving votes in the poll and comes in as the 34th-ranked team in the country; consistent with its No. 33 ranking in the NPI selection rankings.

The full AVCA poll can be found here.

A notable difference between the AVCA poll and NPI ranking is where UNW stands relative to other teams in the state of Minnesota. While the Eagles' No. 33 NPI rank is the highest among Minnesota schools, they come in third in the AVCA ranks. Gustavus Adolphus is the highest at No. 25, while St. Olaf, who Northwestern will face in the tournament's opening round on Thursday, is slotted in 30th position.

In addition to No. 34 UNW and No. 30 St. Olaf, the Bloomington Region will also feature No. 2 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 13 UW-Whitewater, No. 19 Calvin and No. 40 Coe. Northwestern is 1-1 this season against teams in the regional, defeating St. Olaf and losing to Coe, both at home.

First serve between the Eagles and Oles is scheduled for 4:30 PM at Illinois Wesleyan's Shirk Center, pending the conclusion of the day's prior games.
