ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Eagles secured a 3-2 win over North Central on Wednesday afternoon, backed by a strong offensive performance and a pair of goals from Jared Mojardin (Denver, Colo./Northeast Early College).
Simeon Friesen (Mounds View, Minn./Homeschool) set the tone early, earning a penalty in the 5th minute after being pulled down in the box. He calmly buried the kick into the bottom corner to give UNW the lead. Just nine minutes later, Carter Dieterich (East Moline, Ill./Alleman) delivered a free kick from nearly midfield that found Mojardin, who marked his return to the starting lineup with a goal in the 14th minute. The Rams cut the lead in half with a goal in the 32nd minute, but the Eagles maintained control, holding a 6-1 edge in shots on goal at halftime.
The second half saw chances at both ends until Dylan Anaya (Eagan, Minn./Two Rivers) broke through on a breakaway and was tripped up by the goalkeeper in the box. Mojardin stepped up for the penalty and confidently buried it top shelf to make it 3-1. North Central added one late, but the Eagles held firm to close out the 3-2 victory.
Mojardin led the attack with two goals on six shots, while Friesen added a goal on five attempts. Jay'ce Jones (Marina del Rey, Calif./Palisades Charter) contributed three shots, and Luis Villalobos (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) added two. Between the pipes, Hayden DeAnnuntis (Ferndale, Wash./Ferndale) collected 2 saves.
The Eagles return home Saturday, October 18, to host Bethany Lutheran at 3:30 PM
