NEW ULM, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Men's Golf Team closed out their 2024 spring season on Thursday and they went out the way everybody wants to go out: on top. The Eagles won the MLC Invite at the New Ulm Country Club. This event was a great measuring stick for the Eagles as the entire UMAC was represented.
It was a dramatic finish in New Ulm, under the shadow of the famous Hermann the German statue, as the Eagles topped the North Central Rams by a single stroke.
Mason Heidgerken (Melrose, Minn./Melrose Area) saved his best performance of the season for his last performance of the season. Heidgerken won the event as an individual and shot a 73 in his final round of the spring.
Gordon Skaar (Coleraine, Minn./Homeschool) was right on Heidgerken's heels, shooting a 74 on Thursday.
Jackson Nyhus (Henning, Minn./Henning) and
Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) came next with Nyhus shooting a 76 and Seiffert shooting a 77.
Dawson Burke's (Rogers, Minn./Maple Grove) round was an 82, Sam Schwartz finished at an 85, and
Ethan Van Hauwaert (Marshall, Minn./Marshall) shot an 87.
Mikey Vall (Eau Claire, Wis./Hillcrest Lutheran Academy) rounded things out for UNW with a 92.
With this win at the MLC Invite, the Eagles proved that they will have a chance to be in the mix at the top of the UMAC next fall. After a summer out on the golf courses perfecting their swings and their short games, the Eagles will be back on campus in the fall searching for that UMAC Championship and a return to the NCAA National Championships.
