Northwestern Ties Despite Offensive Efforts

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Northwestern's soccer team looked to bounce back after their loss to UW-Superior earlier this week. Despite out-shooting the North Central Rams 18-6, the game ended in a scoreless draw.

Though neither team scored, the Eagles led the game in shots, shots on goal, and corners. Regardless of the offensive threats, Northwestern was unable to break open the scoring. The Eagles and Rams traded shot attempts throughout the first half with only one shot by Jared Mojardin (Denver, Colo./Northeast Early College) landing on target. Northwestern picked up the pace in the second 45 minutes by taking 13 shots and placing 5 shots on goal.

Mojardin had missed the Eagles' last 5 games due to injury, but got back to the pitch and led the team in shots and shots on goal with 5 and 2, respectively. Gonzalo Luna Belmonte (Riverbank, Calif./Riverbank) launched four shots and put one on target. Julian Ortiz Menjivar (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) and Simeon Friesen (Mounds View, Minn./Homeschool) each tallied two shots, while Aaron Hill (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View), Tim DeLoye (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West), Luis Villalobos (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North), Teddy Hall (Mendota Heights, Minn./Homeschool), and Caleb Harms all notched one shot. Michael Machuca (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) faced only one shot thanks to the effort of his midfielders and defenders who stifled the Ram's offensive attacks.

The Eagles will be back on the pitch on Tuesday night at conference opponent Bethany Lutheran College at 4:30 PM prior to the women's game.
