Megan McGeough Named Assistant Sports Information Director

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern Athletic Department has hired a new Assistant Sports Information Director, and the face will be a familiar one for many UNW fans and student-athletes. Megan (Roberts) McGeough '21 joins the Sports Information team after a prolific athletic career at 3003 Snelling Ave N.

Many Eagle fans will remember McGeough as Megan Roberts, the three-time Frist Team All-UMAC and two-time NCCAA All-American for the Northwestern Women's Basketball team. She also was a member of the UNW Women's Lacrosse team for three seasons and worked for the Sports Information Department as a student, setting the foundation for a future career in the department. Her student worker experience included both game day and office duties that were integral to the operation of Eagle Athletics.

Since graduating from Northwestern with a degree in Kinesiology, Megan has not been far away. She has been working as an Admissions Counselor at Northwestern since July of 2022, which has allowed her to connect with many current and future UNW student-athletes. The territories she was responsible for were Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, South Dakota and Washington, as well as Anoka County, Isanti County, Carver County and Wright County in Minnesota. McGeough is also an Assistant Coach for the Northwestern Women's Basketball team, a role she assumed in 2023 after her playing career had concluded, and was the voice of Northwestern Lacrosse for the Eagle Sports Network.

Megan is excited to be working full-time in Athletics after referencing them often in her Admissions conversations. "After graduating, I started working in Admissions at Northwestern which allowed me to share about this school that I love to incoming students," she said. "During my two years in Admissions, I spoke a lot about my experience in athletics. As soon as this position opened up, and I knew I had to come back to this department that was extremely developmental for me. I am excited to be part of athletics again!"

Recently-promoted Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Information, Jess Poppen, is excited to have McGeough on board as well. "Megan's personality is infectious and will be a great asset to the department when it comes to working in harmony with coaches and managing student workers," he remarked. "Her background in the department as a student worker and broadcaster herself provides a good foundation for her to get started on, but her love for Northwestern Athletics is what shines through the most. I'm excited to work with her."

UNW Director of Athletics, Dr. Matt Hill, shares Poppen's excitement. "I am excited to have Megan on staff," he commented. "As a former two-sport collegiate athlete and a student assistant in the Athletic Department, she brings Eagle experiences that will be beneficial to the student-athletes and staff of UNW Athletics. Furthermore, her dedication and loyalty to UNW will a blessing to many on and off campus."

McGeough will immediately assume the duties of Sports Information Contact for Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Men's Cross Country and Women's Cross Country, with winter and spring sports to be determined at a later date.
