ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Eagles have a new addition to the Sports Medicine Department as Ashley Krantz has been hired as an Athletic Trainer.
"I could not be more excited to come back and serve on the athletic training staff as a UNW graduate and former athlete," said Krantz. "I am so grateful for this opportunity and to be a part of and work alongside a community of believers."
Krantz is a Northwestern alumna and former softball student-athlete. She played four years for the Eagles and served on two mission trips to Haiti with her team.
In 2015, Krantz graduated from UNW with a Bachelors in Kinesiology. She went on to further her education at Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon where she earned her Master of Athletic Training degree in 2020.
After earning her graduate degree, Krantz joined Sanford Health; working with Worthington High School and Minnesota West Community and Technical College as an athletic trainer for the past three years.
"I am excited to have Ashley return to campus in this role," said Director of Athletics
Dr. Matt Hill. "She is very familiar with Northwestern having been a recent student-athlete. Her experience in the sports medicine arena, love of her alma matter, and the desire to serve our students will be a huge benefit to this institution."
This past year, the Minnesota Athletic Trainers Association honored Krantz with a 2023 MATA Outstanding Athletic Trainer Recognition Award, which is given to athletic trainers that have achieved one or more outstanding accomplishments in areas such as responding in a critical situation, active in the advancement of the profession of Athletic Training and Sports Medicine, or promoted Athletic Training through public speaking and/or related events outside of Athletic Training profession.
"I am excited to have Ashley join the sports medicine team," said Head Athletic Trainer
Brent Cramer. "She understands the culture at UNW being a former student-athlete here but also brings various types of experience to enhance the quality of care that we provide. She is a great addition to UNW athletics."
