ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference announced their Men's and Women's Track and Field postseason awards on Tuesday and both UNW's Men's and Women's Track and Field teams had players recognized.
The UMAC guidelines state that in order to receive All-Conference recognition a student athlete must finish first or second in that specific event.
Deanna Trucksess (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake) met that qualification in three different events to add more All-Conference honors to her impressive career. The sophomore picked up two individual wins in the 200m and 400m dashes. Trucksess then was named All-Conference for her performance in the 100m dash by finishing second overall.
Emily Ashton (Camas, Wash./St. Mary's Academy) had a great 2023 season in her inaugural season on the team. Ashton showed improvement in the Javelin Throw all season and then was peaking at the right time. Ashton ended her season with multiple wins in that event, including a win at the UMAC Championships to grab All-Conference honors.
Ashton was also named the Eagles' 2023 Outdoor Track and Field UMAC Sportsmanship Award Winner.
Q Middleton (Denver, Colo./Green Mountain) took home a Sportsmanship Award on the Men's Track and Field side. Ashton and Middleton receive this award for being great representatives of Northwestern and of the UMAC. These two have displayed great sportsmanship throughout the year and are great examples of how to Compete With Purpose.
