ST. PETER, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Tennis traveled to the Swanson Tennis Center to take on both Bethany Lutheran College and Martin Luther College for the first two matches of conference competition on Sunday. The Eagles took down both the Vikings and Knights with a pair of 9-0 sweeps to kick off their UMAC schedule.
Match One: Bethany Lutheran College
UNW opened the first match of the day with a sweep of the doubles competition.
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) won the #3 doubles match with an 8-0 sweep.
Domiano Baideme (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) and
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) followed with an 8-1 win at #2 doubles.
Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) and
Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory in the #1 match.
The Eagles needed just two points in singles to win the match, but proceeded to win all six. Orvis took #1 singles 6-0, 6-2. Baideme won #2 singles 6-2, 6-1. Smith earned a 6-0, 6-3 win in the #3 match. Jarchow took the #4 match 6-3, 6-2. Marquardt won a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory at #5 singles.
Rayna Baumgarn (Holmen, Wis./Holmen) wrapped up the singles contests with a 6-4, 6-0 win in the #6 match.
Match Two: Martin Luther College
The Eagles continued their strong play into the second match of the day. Smith and Marquadt won the first match with an 8-1 victory at #3 doubles. Orvis and Johnson followed with an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. Baideme and Jarchow closed out a doubles sweep for Northwestern with an 8-3 win at the #2 match.
UNW kept on winning in singles. Orvis swept her #1 singles match 6-0, 6-0. Baideme almost swept her #2 match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Smith earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory at #3 singles. Jarchow took her #4 singles match 6-3, 6-1. Marquardt battled to a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) win at #5 singles.
Elli Dodge (Wahpeton, N.D./Wahpeton) won the #6 singles match 6-2, 6-1 for UNW.
