Conference Champions! Eagles Win UMAC North Division Women’s Tennis Title with 8-1 Victory over UW-Superior

ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Tennis hosted University of Wisconsin-Superior on Sunday morning at the Johnson Tennis Complex for a conference contest. The Eagles defeated the Yellowjackets in an 8-1 victory to remain undefeated in the conference at 9-0 and clinch the UMAC North Division Regular Season Championship; the third consecutive regular season conference title for UNW.
 
Northwestern jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles. Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) earned the first team point for UNW with an 8-4 victory at #3 doubles. Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) and Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) followed with an 8-4 win at #1 doubles. Domiano Baideme (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) and Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) finished the doubles sweep for UNW with an 8-5 victory in the #2 match.
 
UNW entered singles needing only two points to secure the UMAC Championship. Smith won her #5 singles match 6-2, 6-3 to bring the Eagles within one. Johnson clinched the match-deciding fifth point and the conference championship for Northwestern with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at #2 singles.
 
The Eagles went on to win three more singles matches. Baideme took the #3 singles match 6-4, 6-2. Jarchow earned a 6-0, 7-5 win at #4 singles. Marquardt closed out the win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at #6 singles.
 
Up next, Northwestern will host Bethany Lutheran College on Monday, April 24 at 6:00 p.m. as the Eagles celebrate senior day.
