ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Tennis hosted Crown College and Martin Luther College on Monday evening for a pair of conference matches at the Johnson Tennis Complex. The Eagles swept both the Polars and Knights 9-0 to remained undefeated in the UMAC through six matches. In addition,
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) reached a monumental career milestone with her 100
th career win.
Match One: Crown College Polars
UNW kicked off their match against Crown with a sweep of the doubles matches.
Elli Dodge (Wahpeton, N.D./Wahpeton) and
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) swept their #2 doubles match.
Rayna Baumgarn (Holmen, Wis./Holmen) and
Caitlyn Swigart (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) followed with an 8-1 win in the #3 match.
Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) and
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) closed out the team doubles sweep with an 8-1 win in the #1 match.
In singles, Swigart earned the fourth team point for Northwestern with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #6 singles.
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) secured the team win for UNW by securing the fifth point with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of #3 singles.
Domiano Baideme (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles. Dodge then won #5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of her own. Baumgarn took #4 singles 6-1, 6-0. Smith wrapped up the team match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #2 singles.
Match Two: Martin Luther College Knights
The Eagles kept their momentum going into the second match of the night, sweeping the doubles matches once again. Orvis and Johnson took #1 doubles 8-5. Baideme and Jarchow won #2 doubles 8-2. Smith and Marquardt closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory in the #3 match.
In singles, Baideme won UNW their fourth team point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the #2 match. Orvis clinched the match win for Northwestern with a 6-4, 6-1 win at #1 singles.
Smith proceeded to win #3 singles 6-2, 6-2. Jarchow won her #4 singles match 6-1, 6-0. Marquardt then took the #5 singles match 6-1, 6-0. Baumgarn closed out the contest with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at #6 singles.
