MORRIS, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Tennis traveled to University of Minnesota Morris on Tuesday afternoon for a key conference contest. The Eagles were victorious against the Cougars, winning 7-2 to remain undefeated atop the UMAC through seven matches.
UNW now leads the conference North Division at 7-0 with UMM and University of Wisconsin-Superior in a second-place tie at 4-2.
In Tuesday's match, the Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles.
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) won the first match of the day with an 8-2 victory at #3 doubles.
Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) and
Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) added to the UNW lead with an 8-4 win at #1 doubles. The Cougars cut the Eagles' lead in half with an 8-7 (8-6) win at #2 doubles.
In singles, Northwestern won five of the six matches to secure the 7-2 victory. Orvis won #1 singles 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
Domiano Baideme (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) took #2 singles 6-4, 6-1. Smith led her #4 singles match after a 7-6 (7-4) first-set victory before her opponent retired.
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) rallied to earn a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) victory at #5 singles. Marquardt earned a 6-0, 6-1 win in the #6 match.
Up next, Northwestern will host University of Wisconsin-Superior on Friday, April 21 for a 4:00 p.m. match.
