SUPERIOR, Wis. – University of Northwestern Women's Tennis traveled north to take on University of Wisconsin-Superior on Thursday afternoon for their fourth conference match of the season. The Eagles remained undefeated in the UMAC at 4-0 with an 8-1 win over the Yellowjackets.
UNW swept the doubles matches to go up 3-0 on UWS.
Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) and
Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) swept the #1 doubles match 8-0.
Domiano Baideme (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) and
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) followed with an 8-4 win at #2 doubles.
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) finished up the doubles sweep for the Eagles with an 8-2 win in the #3 match.
In singles, Baideme won her #2 match to put UNW up 4-0 in the team match.
Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) clinched the team win for the Eagles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at #3 singles to earn the decisive fifth team point.
Match in hand, the Eagles kept on competing. The Yellowjackets won the #1 match to avoid the shutout, but Jarchow followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #5 singles for the sixth UNW team point. Smith took the #4 match 6-2, 6-3 for Northwestern. Marquardt closed out the contest with a marathon 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-7) victory at #6 singles to earn the eighth team point for UNW.
