WINONA, Minn. – University of Northwestern Men's Tennis battled University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match. The UNW Eagles fell 6-3 to the UWL Eagles.
La Crosse won two doubles points to open the match, winning #1 and #3 doubles.
Stewart Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) and
Jacob Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) won #2 doubles for Northwestern with a hard-fought 8-7 (8-6) tiebreaker victory.
In singles, UWL took the #4 and #3 matches to go up 4-1. Morrell kept the Eagles alive with a marathon 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) victory in the #1 singles match. La Crosse then clinched the match with a victory at #5 singles.
UNW earned one more point as
Andy Stevenson (Fridley, Minn./Fridley) won his #6 singles match 6-4, 6-4.
Up next, Northwestern will take on Bethany Lutheran College and Martin Luther College on Sunday, April 2 starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter.
