SARTELL, Minn. – University of Northwestern Men's Tennis battled Saint John's University on Tuesday in a non-conference match. The Eagles earned two wins in singles but fell 7-2 to the Johnnies.
Saint John's went up 3-0 during doubles play. The Johnnies took #2 doubles 8-2, followed with an 8-4 win at the #3 match, and took the #1 contest 8-6.
In singles,
Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) cruised to a #3 singles win with an efficient 6-1, 6-2 victory to give the Eagles their first point.
The Johnnies would take the match and go up 7-1, but
Jacob Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) earned a hard-fought marathon victory at #2 singles to give UNW the final point of the night. The sophomore took a 6-4 win in the opening set, dropped the second set 7-6 (7-5), and then clinched the match with an extraordinary 16-14 victory in the third-set tiebreaker.
