OWATONNA, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Tennis traveled down to the West Hills Tennis & Fitness Center in Owatonna to open their 2023 campaign with a non-conference match against Concordia College.
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) won her #6 singles match in a tiebreaker, but the Eagles fell 8-1 to the Cobbers.
In doubles, Concordia took the #1 and #3 matches 8-1. The Eagles and Cobbers battled back and forth in the #2 doubles contest, but Concordia took the match 8-6.
In singles, the Cobbers won the #2 and #1 matches to clinch the team win.
Smith took the first set of her #6 singles match 7-5, but dropped the second 3-6. In the tiebreaker, the UNW senior earned a hard-fought 11-9 victory to win her match.
Up next, Northwestern will head over to Baseline Tennis Center next Saturday, February 11, for a match against Macalester College.
