BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Tennis traveled over to Life Time Fitness in Bloomington on Saturday morning to take on College of Saint Scholastica. The Eagles took an early lead in doubles, but the Saints rallied in singles as UNW fell 5-4.
In doubles,
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Elli Dodge (Wahpeton, N.D./Wahpeton) won the #3 match 8-3 to give UNW an early 1-0 lead. The Saints tied the contest at 1-1 with an 8-3 win of their own in #1 doubles.
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) earned a hard-fought 8-7 victory at #2 doubles, taking the tiebreaker 8-6.
Up 2-1, the Eagles needed three wins in singles to take the match. Smith won the #5 match 6-3, 6-1 and Dodge took the #6 match 6-2, 6-4 to bring UNW to four points. The Saints, however, would win the remaining four singles matches to take the 5-4 team win.
Up next, Northwestern will head to down to Orlando, Florida to begin their Spring Break matches on Monday, March 6 against Covenant College.
