ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern Men's Soccer team took the pitch Wednesday night against the top scoring team in the UMAC, the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The Yellowjackets lived up to that title, using a balanced attack to defeat the Eagles, 7-0.
Playing without two of its leading scorers,
Simeon Friesen (Mounds View, Minn./Mounds View) and
Tim DeLoye (Wausau, Wisc./Wausau West), Northwestern's offense struggled to get going in the physical contest that played out at Reynolds Field. While the Yellowjackets held the advantage in shots and shots on goal, the Eagles turned in more saves and corner kicks than their adversaries.
UNW's offensive attack was spearheaded by
Aaron Hill's (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) four shots and two shots on goal.
Alejandro Alfaro (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) and
Joey McMillin (Hugo, Minn./Centennial) each added two shots, while
Garrett Miers (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) pitched in one.
Robert Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian) added Northwestern's other shot on goal. UW-Superior's offensive efforts were highlighted by Jake Kidd's hat trick and Josh Bellamy's three assists.
The Eagles will next turn their eyes to the North Central University Rams, who they will welcome to Reynolds Field Saturday at 3:30 PM. The two teams tied earlier in the season, so it should be an entertaining match. Tune into the Eagle Sports Network and unweagles.com for all the action.
