ASHLAND, Wis. – University of Northwestern Women's Basketball traveled to Northland College on Saturday afternoon for a conference road game. The Eagles had their highest-scoring game of the season in an 89-56 win over the Lumberjills to remain undefeated atop the UMAC standings at 7-0.
Northland hit a three-pointer for the first basket of the game, but the Eagles took the lead on a
Lexi Hagen (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) three-pointer less than a minute and a half later. From there, UNW never looked back as they shot 50.0 percent from the field (33-for-66) in the game while holding the Lumberjills to just 28.4 percent (21-for-74). The Eagles were locked in from long range, making 14-of-34 (41.2 percent) while holding Northland to 8-for-35 (22.9 percent) from beyond the arc.
Rylie Hirschey (Pine River, Minn./Pine River Backus) led the Eagles with 19 points in just 22 minutes of play off the bench, shooting 7-for-13 from the floor and 5-for-9 from three-point range. The sophomore also tied
Grace Landvik (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) for the team lead in rebounds with seven in the game.
Hagen followed Hirschey with 14 points and had six rebounds.
Allison Terry (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) scored 13 points in the win, adding five rebounds, three assists, and a team-high two steals.
River Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) had double-digit points as well, scoring 12 on 6-of-7 shooting while gathering six boards.
Points off the bench were a strength of the Eagles as they outscored the Lumberjills 45-9 in that category. UNW dominated in the paint, outscoring Northland there 36-18. The Eagles also had success off of fast breaks, scoring 15 points to the Lumberjill's five.
Up next, Northwestern will head over to Minneapolis to take on the North Central University Rams in a road conference battle at 4:45 P.M. on Saturday, January 28. The Eagles will next play at home on February 10.
