Women’s Basketball Remains Undefeated in UMAC as Eagles Soar to 67-34 Victory at North Central

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Northwestern Women's Basketball traveled to North Central University on Saturday afternoon for a conference away game. The Eagles entered the game leading the UMAC with a perfect 7-0 record with the Rams in second place at 5-2. UNW remained undefeated against conference opponents with a 67-34 win over NCU, increased their lead in the UMAC standings to three games with six games remaining.
 
The Eagles and Rams played to an even 11-11 score in the opening quarter, but UNW took control in the second quarter. Northwestern outscored North Central 18-3 in the second frame, shooting 50.0 percent (8-16) from the floor while holding the Rams to just 5.9 percent (1-17). The Eagles led 29-14 at the half.
 
Northwestern kept up the pace in the third quarter, scoring another 18 points on 36.8 percent shooting (7-19) while holding NCU to 21.4 percent (3-14). UNW led by 27 points at the end of the third, up 47-20.
 
Lexi Garcia (Colorado Springs, Colo./Vanguard) gave the Eagles their largest lead of the night with 1:41 to go in the fourth quarter, hitting a three-pointer to give UNW a 38-point lead, up 67-29. Northwestern outscored North Central 20-14 in the final frame to secure the victory. With the win, the Eagles improved to 8-0 in the UMAC and 12-7 overall.
 
Megan McGeough (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) led the Eagles with 19 points in the game on 9-of-15 shooting and was tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight. Grace Landvik (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) followed with 13 points to go with six rebounds.
 
Up next, Northwestern will travel to Morris to take on the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars in a road conference battle at 7:15 P.M. on Friday, February 3. The Eagles will next play at home on February 10.
