Women’s Basketball Defeats UW-Superior to Remain Undefeated in UMAC

SUPERIOR, Wis. – University of Northwestern Women's Basketball traveled up to University of Wisconsin-Superior on Friday night for a conference road game. In a defensive battle, the Eagles defeated the Yellowjackets 46-41 to remain atop the UMAC standings; undefeated in conference play through six games.

In the opening quarter, the Eagles took a 10-8 lead. The Eagles made 4-of-10 from the field in the opening 10 minutes while holding the Yellowjackets to just 3-for-17 from the field.

UNW increased their lead to 21-17 at halftime. Northwestern went 3-of-12 from the field in the second quarter but made 5-of-6 free throws to stay ahead of Superior.

The Eagles had their most efficient quarter in the third, going 5-for-9 from the field for a 55.6 percent mark. The Yellowjackets' offense started to heat up after halftime as well as they kept pace with UNW in the quarter as both teams scored 12 points each.

Leading 33-29 heading into the final 10 minutes, the Eagles closed out the win by taking advantage of their trips to the line. On a night in which the defensive play from both teams made offensive succeses difficult to find for both teams, UNW made 7-of-9 free throw opportunities in the final quarter to carry them to the 46-41 conference victory.

Up next, Northwestern will travel to Ashland, Wisconsin to take on Northland College in a conference battle at 4:45 P.M. on Saturday, January 21. The Eagles will next play at home on February 10.
